history In 1984 Paul and Chris Kelly began training at the Town of Newburgh Recreation
Center under John Luposello (Brown Belt). Within a few months John's instructor, K.A. Lipsey, opened a full-time studio
on Rt. 52 in Newburgh where they continued their training. Paul and Chris were promoted to the rank of 1st DAN Black Belt
at the World Tae Kwon Do Association Headquarters in Manhattan in November of 1986. Two months later Paul was given the school
at the Newburgh Recreation Center and Kelly's Tae Kwon Do was founded. Six months later the Lipsey school decided to leave
The World Tae Kwon Do Association and Kelly's Tae Kwon Do followed. Over the course of the next few years Kelly's
Tae Kwon Do decided to go its own way focusing on Traditional Chug Do Kwan Tae Kwon Do under The United
Tae Kwon Do Society. Having earned the rank of 3rd DAN Black Belt outside WTA, in 1996, Paul and Chris decided to strap on
their 1st DAN belts and visit GrandMaster Son. They were invited back into WTA and awarded their 2nd DAN in the fall of 1996,
their 3rd DAN in the fall of 1997, their 4th DAN in the fall of 2000, their 5th DAN in the fall of 2005 and 6th Dan in the
Spring of 2008. Chris Kelly still teaches at the Town of Newburgh Recreation Center and is expanding in the New York
area. Paul Kelly relocated to Durham, NC where he teaches at the Person County Recreation Center, having also taught in Hopewell
Jnct, NY, Pinebush, NY; Mamakating Park, NY; and Washingtonville, NY. |
